Uit de publicatie:
Nuclear power plants with 'passive' safety PIUS - the nuclear reactor of tomorrow The core of the PIUS (Process Inherent Ultimate Safety) reactor is protected by a unique reactor system configuration and a special thermohydraulic feedback mechanism. As this guarantees the core integrity, the primary task of the surveillance and control systems is to keep the reactor operating. In addition to providing unique 'inherent' nuclear safety, this has made a greatly simplified and user-friendly plant possible. PIUS is a modified pressurized water reactor (PWR). Its design is based directly on LWR operating experience in nearly all the basic technological fields, covering core physics and thermohydraulics, fuel technology and the fuel cycle, materials, chemistry, waste handling, component and construction technology, etc.
