FOREWORD

Radiation protection considerations are an important factor in the development 
of nuclear energy power. In this respect it is essential to understand the relative 
significance of all potential sources of radiation exposure of the population.

With this in mind, the Nuclear Energy Agency of the OECD has invited a 
consultant, Sir Edward Pochin, to prepare a report on this subject.

This report is based on scientific work and is aimed at providing selected 
background material to be used by representatives of National Authorities 
having responsibilities in connection with power production and its 
environmental consequences as well as by other persons interested in 
this subject.
