ABSTRACT

Project MARINA was a CEC initiative with the objective of evaluating the
radiological impact of radionuclides in north European marine waters. The purpose
of working group 1 of project MARINA was to compile data on routine releases of
radionuclides from civil nuclear sites into these waters. Working group 1 has
collected and collated discharge data from a total of 72 sites which discharge either
directly or indirectly into north European waters. The period covered is from the
start of operations up to the end of 1984 for all sites and up to the end of 1986 for
reprocessing plants. The sites comprise: 57 nuclear power stations, 3 nuclear fuel
reprocessing plants, 2 fuel production plants, 2 uranium enrichment plants and
8research establishments. Overall, this database consists of approximately 16,000
non-zero annual discharge figures for 44 radionuclides. The discharge data are
present in this report in tabular form together with a description of how the
database was assembled.
