On 19.6.92 unit no. 1 PRM downscale rod block quarterly functional checks were being done. When PRM ch. 6 was unbypassed for checking rod block function (PRM ch.6 signal cable was in removed condition at this stage to simulate downscale condition) reactor scrammed. IRM ch. 9 had kicked up to trip point spuriously and caused channel A scram (as PRM ch. 6 was at downscale). PRM ch. 6 also had kicked up to trip point spuriously even with its signal cable in removed condition, causing channel-B scram. Thus, full scram took place.
