SMALL LEAKAGE OF PRIMARY COOLANT AT NPP BIBLIS, UNIT B

On February 23, 1995 a small primary coolant leakage occurred at NPP Biblis, unit B. At 3.57 (a.m.) operators detected the leakage via a TV camera installed in the vicinity of loop 1 inside the containment. The NP was shut down to inspect the piping. All plant parameters remained within the limits of the technical safety specification. Actuations of safety systems were not required. There was no release of radioactivity to the environment.
The leakage (ca. 1 kg/s) occurred at a charge line of the chemical and volume control system which is directly connected to the primary circuit. The leakage was caused by a longitudinal crack. The crack is located between the primary loop and the first isolation valve. The pipe section was removed, and detailed investigations are being performed. Results of these investigations are not yet available.
