REACTOR TRIP DUE TO FEEDWATER CONTROL VALVE CLOSURE

Yonggwang unit 3 has been operated at full power since initial commercial operation of March 31, 1995. During normal operation, control power loss of main feedwater control system to steam generator no. 1 occurred due to slackness of the screw in direct current power supply board and then caused to close main feedwater control valve of steam generator no. 1.
Eventaully, steam generator level 'Lo' signal initated reactor and turbine trip.
Investigation revealed that the main contributor of this failure was manufacturing mistake. After tightening same kinds of all internal contacts, the plant was returned to operation on April 28, 1995.
There was no release of radioactive materials ouside the reactor building and no unplanned exposure to employees.
Justification: As full safety functions were available, the event is rated at level "0" as per user's manual Part III, Table II, A1.
