AUTOMATIC REACTOR UNLOADING DUE TO TURBOGENERATOR TRIP BY OPERATOR

On November 12, 1995 Ignalina NPP-1 was under normal operation at thermal power of 3100 MW. Electrical power of turbogenerators TG-1/2 was 650 MW/300 MW respectively. At 3:59 am the operator tripped TG-2. The automatic reactor protection system decreased the reactor power to 2400 MW.
TG-2 was tripped by the operator due to ignition of oil which leaked out through a hole in the 10 mm diameter air removal pipe of the turbine control system. The ignition was terminated by the plant staff before the fire brigade had arrived. The defect was repaired and at 2:43 on November 13 TG-2 was started up.
