Steam generator tube leak

On 15 February 2000, control room operators observed indications of a steam generator tube leak. In accordance with plant emergency operating procedures (EOPs), the control room operators manually tripped the unit from 99% power and initiated a manual safety injection. The initial leak rate was approximately 109 gpm (413 litres/min). An ALERT emergency classification was declared due to leakage from the rector coolant system. The faulted steam generator was isolated, and the unit was taken to a cold shutdown condition.
Justification of the rating:
This event was rated as level 0 in accordance with Section IV-3.2.1.3(a) of the 1999 Revised Version Final Draft INES Users Manual, as en event with an expected initiator and full safety function operability.
