ERF description: 01.26 Ukrainian time on March 18, 1992, one steam generator feedwater heater was switched off for maintenance.
During this action a rupture of a bypass of the feedwater pipe (57 mm in diameter) occurred. This pipe supplies the hydraulic driver of the pump for separator-reheaters of the turbine. The reason for the rupture was pipe wall erosion.
There was no radioactive release nor exposure of staff. All safety functions were fully available. According to INES this event is out of scale because of no relevance for safety.
