UNIT SCRAM FOLLOWING THE LOSS OF OFF-SITE POWER

The plant was operating at 100 percent power when at 11:15 the off-site electrical power supply from 400 kV was interrupted. The loss of load caused turbine overspeed protection to actuate turbine trip followed by the reactor. trip. Reactor trip sequence was intitated. Standby diesel generators started and supplied power to the emergency buses. Power supply to the non-safety buses was manually established from available 110 kV grid. After approx. 40 min. forced reactor cooling was established. The plant was stabilised in hot shutdown. All the safety systems performed in accordance with the design.
Basis for rating:
- the off-site and on-site criteria are not relevant for rating
- loss of off-site AC power is an initator (expected)

- Safety functions were fully available.
Box A1 of Table II is therefore appropriate. There are no reasons for uprating and therefore level 0 is selected.
