REACTOR TRIP DUE TO THE FAILURE OF CONTROL ROD SYSTEM

Yonggwang unit 3 was operated at rated power (1000 MWe). During normal operation, a test was performed to check the operability of the Control Rod Assembly Calculator (CEAC). In the withdrawal process of shutdown rod #39 in the shutdown rod group B, the rod was dropped due to the fault condition of the card in control system. At 9:08, September 6, 1995 reactor scram followed due to the increase of penalty factor to Core Protection Calculator (CPC). After investigation, the licensee replaced a new control module and checked its sound availability ; reactor was back to power at 17:51, on the same day.
There was no release of radioactive materials outside the reactor building and no unplanned exposure to employees.
