On April 14th 2015, the National Commission on Nuclear Safety and Safeguards received a report about the theft of a vehicle transporting a radioactive source. This had occurred in the municipality of Cardenas, in the State of Tabasco, Mexico. The stolen source was Ir-92 with an activity of 32 Ci. The source category is 2.
On April 22nd 2015, due to the information given by an anonymous phone call to the State Police, the container with the radioactive source was located and recovered. Later on the Mexican regulatory staff confirmed that the physical integrity of the container with the source was intact.
