INES 1

LOSS OF ELECTRICAL SUPPLY OF THE BANK PUMP STATION OF KOZLODUY NPP

At 3.33 a.m. on 24 November 1994 220 kV and 110 kV station AC electrical power supply was lost due to distruction of one circuit breaker of the station switchgear 220 kV and subsequent actuation of the electrical protections. Unit 1 and 2 were disconnected from the national grid due to the loss of 220 kV AC power supply and the reactors were shut down by RPS.
Unit 3 was in annual outage.
All bank service water pumps tripped due to the loss of electrical power supply 220 kV and 110 kV. The operators started to reduce the power of units 4, 5 and 6. During the power reduction unit 4 was shut down by the RPS due to SG level disturbances. The thermal power of units 5 and 6 was reduced to self consumption.
At 4.13 a.m. a reserve electrical power supply was connected to the station switchgear 110 kV and the reserve electrical supply to units 1 and 2 and to the bank pump station was restored.
At 4.25 a.m. 18 bank service water pumps were started.
During the event limits and conditions for safe operation were not violated.
Investigation continues.
Preliminary INES rating 1, due to common cause failures.
