LOSS OF OFF-SITE AC POWER

At 3.33 a.m. on 24 November 1994 220 kV and 110 kV station AC electrical power supply was lost due to distruction of one circuit breaker of the station switchgear 22 kV and subsequent actuation of the electrical protections. Unit 1 and 2 were disconnected from the national grid due to the loss of 220 kV AC power supply and the reactors were shut down by RPS.
Unit 3 was in annual outage.
All bank service watere pumps tripped due to the loss of electrical power supply 22 kV and 110 kV. The operators reduced the power of units 4, 5 and 6. During the power reduction unit 4 was shut down by the RPS due to SG level disturbances. The thermal power of units 5 and 6 was reduced to self consumption.
After 40 minutes the reserve electrical supply of units 1 and 2 and of the bank pump station was restored. At 4.25 a.m. 18 bank service water pumps were started.
During the event limits and conditions for safe operation were not violated. Availability of the safety systems of units 1 and 2 was within OL & C and for units 3,4,5 and 6 full.
Justification of rating:
Intitiator: LOOP - expected. Safety function availability: within OL & C (for units 1 and 2), full (for units 3 - )
INES rating: Level 1 (Table II, page 26 of the INES Users Manual)
