INES 1

DESIGN DEFICIENCIES IDENTIFIED IN SEPARATION OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, AVOIDANCE OF COMMON CAUSE FAILURES IN THE REACTOR PROTECTION SYSTEM AND OVERPRESSURE RELEASE IN THE AUX BUILD.

Oskarshamn 1 has been modernised during the past two years. The comprehensive methodical investigation revealed that eventual pipe breaks outside the reactor containment in some cases could have caused flooding and overpressure in rooms and in there damage vital electrical equipment.
Corrective actions: separation walls and pressure relief devices were erected in the rooms. Electrical power supplies to redundant safety related components and to the reactor protection system were rearranged and diversified to achieve independence.
