Draft - Draft - Draft PROJECT 14 Taste and Smell Implications of the Hypothetical Emission of Nonradioactive Chemicals at TMI Scope of Work Following the TMI accident, people in the vicinity reported a variety of unusual occurrences. One of the most persistent reports was the experience of a "metallic" taste at discrete times after the accident. This report seeks to generate information about the following questions: 1. What does experiencing a "metallic" taste indicate. 2. What are the charactertstics of the compounds that might have been responsible for causing a metallic taste. To generate responses to these questions 1: analyzed the transcript of the presentation given by Mitsuri Katagiri and Aileen Smith Katagiri before the TMI Commission on March 3, 1983; consulted with experts in the field of taste and smell perception; and conducted a limited literature review.
