M-08 (Subcritical Assembly) September 1976 Explanatory Note This model is intended to provide guidance for the preparation of facility attachments/attachments for subcritical assemblies. If the inventory is above 1 ekg, the SCA will be a facility in terms of INFCIRC/153; if less, it has to be treated as a location. In that instance, it may be a part of an MBA consisting of a number of locations or of another facility or facilities. Two or more SCAs may also be grouped together. Code 1.4. The nuclear material used in the SCA could be natural uranium, plutonium solution, etc. The type of material should be specified. Code 3.1.2. If the SCA is a part of "other locations" or another facility, KMP C will be redundant. Code 5.2.2. For an SCA using natural. uranium, and light water moderated, calibrations would not be required. For an SCA using nuclear material of a higher value, a calibration of the assembly may be needed to prove its nature.
